Notes:
i) For more info in addition to the animal sign of your birth year, check to see what other animal signs are in your complete BaZi chart.
ii) How the year would *specifically* unfold and affect a particular individual would depend on the full interactions within his/her BaZi chart.
Ox
An antsy, unsettled year is in store. However, this is likely due to rapid development in your career or business! You’ll be able to command authority and be quick-thinking. Creativity and recognition will be heightened. However, expect impatience, tempers flaring, stress and misunderstanding with others. The Ox (and family members) will also be generally under-the-weather. Injury involving metal is indicated so take note.
Tiger
A good year for the Tiger. You continue to remain on-the-go, strengthened with a sense of renewed confidence. While you’ll continue to feel lonely from your travels or with your work endeavours, these travel/work opportunities will attract wealth and better overall luck. Stay active and be proactive! You’ll also find increased authority and possible promotion. Tiger, you attract male noblemen this year. This is good news also to (single) Lady Tigers wanting to get hitched. Wedding bells are in earshot for Tigers in current relationships although married Tigers could suffer from poor spousal relationship (or ill health on part of the spouse).
Rabbit
A less-than-stellar year for the Rabbit. As your qi is weak this year, remember to persevere and be determined. You have good learning luck, creativity and authority if you work hard and push through when encountering initial difficulties/obstacles. As your qi is weak this year, take care of your (and family members’) health. Avoid funerals and visiting the sick. Take care while driving and do not partake in dangerous sports. Possible defamation or legal issues are also indicated.
Dragon
A good but uncomfortable year is in store. You’ll be plagued by a feeling of uncertainty but just remember things are better than you think. Dragons receive good noble help from females (which also benefit single male Dragons on the lookout for mates). Relationships with family, friends and colleagues will be testy though due to a change in your *own* attitudes. Although you’d want to be aggressive with your goals, Dragon, do note that a slow and steady approach will yield much, much better results this year esp. since delays and minor obstacles will be expected. Married Dragons, there’s indication of illicit affairs so please control yourself!
Snake
The Snake experiences a generally good year in 2009. Career and wealth outlook are good. While there’s good recognition and promotion luck, relationships with others are generally testy and fraught with misunderstandings, mostly because you feel misunderstood and overly suspicious. Snakes, be prepared for some sort of a “shocking” event of some sort this year. Also, be cautious when handling legal matters & formal documentation.
Horse
Horse, your luck improves this year. However, expect some spillover of the issues from 2008…These will mainly manifest in unexpected delays and obstacles. There’ll also be unavoidable “leaks” in your wealth. You need to wary of health issues of male elders in your family. Pregnant female horses will need to take extra precaution. On the positive note, you’ll receive support from noble people and generally do well at work. Some travel and fame luck is on the cards too!
Goat
The Goat experiences the most challenges this year as the energies of the year are directly against you. Significant changes are in the cards. Expect large, unavoidable expenditures, a feeling of being pressured/bullied, delays and obstacles. Since changes are afoot, personally *choosing* and acting on a major change in your life (moving house, changing jobs) will be good, although you need to be careful. Embrace any sort of new scene/chapter/surroundings in your life. Another “cure” will be to stay on the move-- travel more and generally keep moving about. Take of your health particularly the stomach, digestive system, spleen and back. Take note of this piece of positive news: by 2nd half of the year things will improve and year end, all will end well so persevere and stay positive!
Monkey
One of the luckiest animal signs in 2009! You’ll experience increased power and authority, receive recognition and celebrate many “happy occasions”! There’ll be increased wealth due to recognition of your skills, authority and fame. Helpful people abound and even negative situations end happily. Be prepared, though, for certain projects and endeavours souring quickly (which simply means close them and move on to others). In addition, minor accidents/mishaps are indicated. Be wary of working too hard and be vigilant of the health of elderly family members.
Rooster
Another good year for the Rooster. You’re (once again) one of the luckier animal signs in the year. This year is esp. good for creative people and performers. You’ll meet new people and establish good contacts which lead to an improved network. These same people will help you achieve your goals. It’s a great year for learning new skills, Rooster. You’ll be able to manage finances, lead and be successful! However, you do need to be wary of physical injury as injury through cutting is indicated. Important: please avoid deep water activities this year. Male Roosters will also come across strong, domineering females this year.
Dog
A mixed year for the Dog. Dog, you’ll continue to feel misunderstood, lonely and prone to “love/hate” relationships with those around you. You’ll feel that situations and people are unfair. Poor communication with others and gossip are issues you have to face. In addition, you’ll be worried about the health of family members. The good news is that you DO have helpful people in abundance so seek them out (and do not assume everyone’s out to get you). In addition, your natural gut instinct will serve you well in work and business, leading to better income/wealth. Maintain your integrity and things will work out very well.
Boar
The Boar will be on the move this year! Travel will be very prevalent. Bear in mind that the rewards this year will come as a result of being active and on-the-move. You’ll have access to connections abroad so this is a year to expand your business and open up new markets. You do have to be careful of mishaps and problems during travel but rest assured these are minor as you’ll be able to receive the necessary help. As this will be a exhausting year, it’s a good idea to avoid funerals and visiting the ill.
Rat
An uncomfortable year for the Rat. Rat, you’ll be meeting many new people and establishing contacts this year. You’ll find yourself in new environments but you’ll generally feel out of place and uncomfortable. However, do remember that it’s a great year to ask and receive help that you need to propel yourself forward. Rats suffer from poor health this year due to sickness and possible contamination/poisoning issues. You also need to be extra careful when dealing with the powerful and high authority. Be extra vigilant too if you’re embarking on any major and large-scale endeavour.

2009: The Year of the Earth Ox
Note:
The following is a general forecast of what year 2009 has in store. You’ll likely see these trends around you but please don’t worry (or get too excited) unnecessarily as we need to examine your personal BaZi chart for direct effects.
The Year of the Earth Ox…a still, stagnating year… With Yin Earth sitting on top of the Ox (whose main qi is also yin earth), it’s not going to be a year with much immediate growth or movement. The Ox is the last of the winter animal signs. Visualise a pile of cold, stacking earth. Things will plod on... As such, on the world stage, it’s unlikely we’ll see any economic recovery until 2010 at the earliest.
Earth in the study of the all-important 5 elements of Chinese Metaphysics indicates both an end OR a beginning. While the year itself will present obstacles and hindrances for most, it’s still a great year for planning for the future and to “plant the seeds” for future projects and endeavours. The potential is there to START a long-term project or new endeavour in life. Remember, the key is planning AND thinking long-term.
What does this mean? It means that you should use this as a year for planning, study and to take initial steps toward a long-term goal. Use this year to cultivate your skills and for self-development. Indeed, the element that is first much needed to “unearth” the potentials of the year is fire. We first need to warm-up the cold earth before we can do anything with it. Specifically, what we need is the fire and warmth of the sun, which is Yang Fire. Imagine the sun, the giver of life, the key source of growth and comfort.
Thus, by looking at the qualities of the fire element, passion and joy are KEY for anyone in making the most of the year! Those who follow their hearts and their passion can make the most of the year. Do what makes you happy. Stay happy! Live the year with excitement, do the things you’re most passionate about and you’ll make the most of the year.
However, if you’re not currently living your life doing what makes you feel good, then fret not. Take time out to evaluate your life and priorities. It’s also a good year for this. Seek answers from within if you still haven’t found what you’re looking for in life. Turn to spirituality (which is also represented by the fire element) and reflect on your goals in life. Focus on learning and self-development. Focus on art, creativity and more right-brained activities. The best part of the year to do this is in the middle of the year during the summer months. However, as the fire element in 2009 already starts making an appearance from February onwards you should make these your (Chinese) New Year resolutions!
Alas, the Ox is also what is termed a “graveyard” animal. “Graveyards” animal years tend to cause complications with relationships. As far as interpersonal relationships go, it’s a year of keeping secrets and not wearing hearts on sleeves. You’ll find that people will not be open with their feelings and there’ll be a lot more that meets the eye and is not revealed. As such, communications will blur and true intentions will be hidden. This is bound to lead to a strong feeling of being misunderstood and not being able to understand one another. Focus on better communication and being clear/open with people around you to minimize these problems.
The Ox year being a “graveyard” year, as mentioned earlier, also signifies things coming to an end. Though morbid, there’ll be a higher percentage of deaths this year. Sickness will be more prevalent, particularly with problems of the Earth and Water organs. Earth organs include the abdomen, stomach, spleen and digestive system. The risk of contamination and infection of the Water organs like the bladder, urinal system and internal reproductive system is high. In addition, there’s also heightened risk of injury to the lower back and lower legs. Those who have a Goat, Ox or Rat in the BaZi chart as well as those having bedrooms or house main doors in the North sector need to be extra vigilant. On a positive note, however, these health issues bode well for the wellness and health industry!
The year of the Earth Ox will prove most beneficial for wood industries like consulting, development, teaching and fast-moving-consumer goods (FMCG). Those in the creative industries like writing, design and advertising will also benefit. Wood industries involving growth (eg. Project Management) and education will benefit the most esp. if a long-term stance is taken.
As fire qi is dampened this year, those of you in fire industries have to make full use of the spring and summer months. Fire businesses eg. beauty, visual media, performing arts, electrical/electronic goods and high-tech gadgets will experience a weaker year esp. in the 2nd half of this Earth Ox year. However, there are exceptions. Those in wellness, healing, metaphysics, internal cultivation and medicine will find business booming. In addition, as fire is the much needed element for the year, those of you in the fire industries can still find opportunities popping up here and there if you look and work hard enough!
Earth industries eg. insurance and property will be strong but competitive. Opportunities are abundant but competition is strong. You’ll find the scenario of having the rug pulled out suddenly from under your feet (by your competitors) will be a common occurrence in the year. Again, the best strategy is to BE competitive and to think long-term.
Metal industries eg machinery, banking and finance will be the worst hit this year. Those involved in metal industries need to maximise the autumns months of August to October because the year holds very little potential. Those in metal industries will plans difficult to move and run into plenty of obstacles and hindrances. Often times, judgement will be clouded. If you’re an entrepreneur in these industries, it’s a time for planning for the future and to think up grand plans to implement for the following Tiger year.
Financial instruments are of course collectively group in the Metal group. As these are affected, financial markets (which are categorized as the Water element since metal produces water) will continue to remain in the doldrums with slightly better performance towards the end of the year. In addition, water industries are negatively affected due to the strong earth of the year. Businesses involving travel, tourism, logistics and verbal communication will suffer due to external pressures, problems with regulations/authorities and hidden issues.

Time Flies: The Art of Taking Stock
I launched into this year with many hopes, goals & aspirations. Suddenly a good 1/4 of the year has gone by since my last post (can't believe it myself---plus i guess have been slack at updating this, haha) and we're well into summer already!
Incredibly, I'm in a taking stock, consolidating phase of this year already...i know it sounds weird being only 1/4+ into the year. Why, u might ask? Because we need to sometimes. For me personally, the opportunities have been incredibly abundant this year. And i've been making some inroads into pretty much all aspects of my life that I'm pursuing. After all, life is all about capturing every opportunity that's thrown to you right?
Well, no. Opportunities may not always turn into successes (ask me personally for details..haha) and grabbing opportunities left, right & centre can be VERY tiring, draining and stressful and even downright depressing when things don't turn out as expected! I *knew* prior to the year that all the developments in my life this year would make my life complicated (from my BaZi la). And it's been the most complicated that's it's been since 2005!
So "suddenly" 1/4+ into the Earth Rat year, I'm tired and rather depressed. And needing to take stock. Needing to encapsulate the BaZi adage that sometimes we need to choose wisely and that it's not worth the mental, emotional and spiritual drain of doing/taking everything that comes our way. I knew it was gonna be draining and tiring but told myself "KE, try it...see if you can handle it". You see, after all, we ALWAYS have a choice of what to do and what NOT to do.
I remember once telling a person I met at a networking do about how 1 aspect of BaZi analysis is to determine what opportunities are coming and which to grab etc. The person of course (you know how these networking folks can be) tells me proudly "Well, I take ALL opportunities that come my way." And my response was that you can't possibly physically or mentally handle everything so it's wise to choose pursuing the RIGHT thing and the RIGHT time.
So this lovely Snake month, reality has hit me and I'm indeed in a consolidation phase, taking stock of where I am, my physical well-being and emotions and more importantly, making adjustments to my goals & aspirations. See folks, 2 important lesssons here--
i) you use BaZi as a guide and to benchmark against your path you are walking. Merely going with the flow...is it good for your psyche, personal happiness? Eg (in my case), opportunities and a life with 10,000 things happening may not always be the best for your soul and spirit!
ii) even BaZi practitioners have their own lives to manage (we are people too...just because we "know" and can dispense practical solutions doesn't mean we are divine in any way).
Looking back now (and my previous entries) I'm starting to think perhaps there was a reason why i've not posted til now. Read my previous entries again and compare it against this one. There should be an important BaZi/life lesson to be learnt in between :)

Ah...time for festivities as we herald the Earth Rat!
Here comes the firecrackers (shhh...don't tell anyone), goodies, ang pows and new clothes!
I'm very much looking forward to the Chinese New Year. Got exciting plans for all perpectives of my (working) life and this is THE year to decide on how I'm gonna live out my "life plan" for well...the rest of my life.
As for preparations, I've been doing the usual stuff scurrying here and there eg. planning for the New Year in terms of actions and what to do, shopping and also "updating" feng shui for coming year.
At the recent Joey Yap's annual talk, I was roped-in to help ease the "quickie" 10-min BaZi consultations line, even though I was busy with other things. The same amazing and often outrageous requests from the "quickie" clients ie. to tell them ALLLL aspects of their lives in uhm...10 min! Perhaps they didn't read the banner which exactingly mentions that they've got to prepare 3 questions to ask the consultant...Anyway, yours truly promptly put them in their place! Thank the heavens I didn't need to do that many of the "quickie" consultations because quite frankly that's not my style. I find it difficult to help someone meaningfully in that short of time.
At other times, I was reminded again and again at how impatient people are and how sooooo many people are in search of a quick fix with little or no effort. Is life ever so simple or more accurately, is life ever that *convenient*? Everything needs a bit of time, effort and investment folks...even when it comes to improving yourself and your life.
Speaking of which, if you've NOT gotten a full BaZi reading, what on earth are you still waiting for :)
Happy Earth Rat Year everyone and Gong Xi Fa Chai!!

Brief Outlook for 12 Animal Signs in the 2008 Earth Rat Year
Notes:
i) For more info in addition to the animal sign of your birth year, check to see what other animal signs are in your complete BaZi chart.
ii) How the year would *specifically* unfold and affect a particular individual would depend on the full interactions within his/her BaZi chart.
Rat
An unsettled year is in store for the Rat but the good news is that the lack of ease is due to more authority, power and resultant wealth. Rats will have good ability to manage and generate wealth. Health-wise, Rat you need to take care of your health and watch out for accidents, potential robbery and sudden health problems.
Ox
Expect the presence of good noble people (particularly males) and increased power and advancement. You’ll meet many new people and increase your contacts. However, relationships with peers, friends and siblings will prove tiring and troublesome. Resist the urge to change jobs as there are some unseen dangers.
Tiger
An average year for the Tiger. There’ll be increased travel and wealth opportunities from abroad or being on the move. While you’ll feel a bit lonely from your travels or with your work endeavours Tiger, do capitalize on this! Watch out for some legal issues or possible defamation/dispute. Do keep an eye out for the health of elderly family members.
Rabbit
A year of good persuasive powers, flirting and attraction! This is the year for the Rabbit to be suave and attractive. Your communication and master-minding skills are excellent this year! Look to women to be most helpful to you this year. The downsides to being so popular are possible relationship complications, hurt feelings, potential 3rd party problems and unnecessary spending. In addition, watch out for the flu or catching some unsavoury sexual disease(s). Also, familial relationships will be less than stellar.
Dragon
A year of good networking luck! You’ll experience help from others as well as increased creativity. This is a good year for cultivation and study. Don’t worry if you feel that no one “gets” what your ideas and passion are about. Also, don’t let troublesome or petty people get to you. A family member or 2 may be in for a tough time as injury or illness is indicated at home. You can pre-empt this by making some interior decoration changes to your family home.
Snake
The Snake experiences a much better year than in 2007. Noble people and supporters are around you and you bask in recognition of your endeavours. A promotion is also in store! Do guard against excessive “frivolous” expenditure. Some possible small loss or investment will be unavoidable so be proactive and invest before you are “forced” to lose money. Be thorough with press releases et al as some public relations issue is in store. Also, elderly family members may be ill.
Horse
The poor Horse is unfortunately the most afflicted of all the animal signs in 2008…The barrage of problems include hassles and obstacles in your endeavours, relationship issues, depression/lack of vitality and a sense of unease throughout the year. Stay strong Horse! You’re also likely to run into large and unavoidable expenditure and perhaps some loss of asset. Be careful during travels. Stay calm and take care of your heart, blood pressure and eyes.
Goat
A good year all around for the Goat. People are drawn to you and find you attractive. Good tidings are in store and the year is good esp. to those in rank and power. There is recognition and increased wealth as a result. Don’t fret and worry if problems arise as they will eventually resolve themselves. There’ll be instability with your life and outlook so take these in stride. Watch against being overly sensitive. Some minor stomach/digestive problems are indicated.
Monkey
An average year for the Monkey. New contacts and alliances come into your life. This is a year of increased creativity and good learning opportunities. However, take note of excessive perfectionism Monkey! There’s indication of bodily injury/bleeding so this is not a good year to be too physically active. Stay safe. Petty troublemakers abound and they could be some legal issue to deal with.
Rooster
This is YOUR year to shine Rooster! You’re the luckiest of the animal signs in 2008. There is overall good luck, good wealth, good relationships and many happy events/celebrations. You’ll enjoy the patronage of helpful people, drawing much goodwill and gratitude. Justice and integrity will be close to heart as you conduct yourself this year. Even initial problems will result in your become the hero/heroine when they eventually resolve themselves. Your family members will also be supportive. With such a successful year, the tongues of the green-eyed ones will be wagging but just ignore them. There is some tendency to cheat on your loved one if you’re already attached as peach blossom luck is strong. Also, be “safe” to avoid catching some unsavoury sexual disease.
Dog
The mantra for the Dog this year is to wait out all your problems...This is a year where problems are plentiful but the GOOD news is that they will resolve themselves positively. In short, expect a bad process but good ending! Your internal qi is weak this year. Physical health-wise, the Dog is prone to injury, scarring and catching others’ diseases this year. Avoid water activities this year. There’s also some tendency to be drawn into complicated and messy problems of other people. As such, Dog you’re likely to feel misunderstood, lonely and prone to “love/hate” relationships with those around you.
Boar
The Boar is under the influence of sickness stars this year. Besides sickness, you’ll feel stressed. Your internal qi is low this year and you need to work hard to maximize the year. While help may seem slow to come when you need it, if you persist it WILL come. Seek (hard) and you shall find. Hardwork and focus will result in increased wealth. Take care to eat properly as there is some sign of malnourishment (probably due to a hectic schedule). Some minor gossiping and legal issues are also indicated.
i) For more info in addition to the animal sign of your birth year, check to see what other animal signs are in your complete BaZi chart.
ii) How the year would *specifically* unfold and affect a particular individual would depend on the full interactions within his/her BaZi chart.
Rat
An unsettled year is in store for the Rat but the good news is that the lack of ease is due to more authority, power and resultant wealth. Rats will have good ability to manage and generate wealth. Health-wise, Rat you need to take care of your health and watch out for accidents, potential robbery and sudden health problems.

Monkey
An average year for the Monkey. New contacts and alliances come into your life. This is a year of increased creativity and good learning opportunities. However, take note of excessive perfectionism Monkey! There’s indication of bodily injury/bleeding so this is not a good year to be too physically active. Stay safe. You’ll enjoy the patronage of helpful people, drawing much goodwill and gratitude. Justice and integrity will be close to heart as you conduct yourself this year. Dog
The mantra for the Dog this year is to wait out all your problems...This is a year where problems are plentiful but the GOOD news is that they will resolve themselves positively.

2008: The Year of the Earth Rat
Note:
The following is a general forecast of what year 2008 has in store. You’ll likely see these trends around you but please don’t worry (or get too excited) unnecessarily as we need to examine your personal BaZi chart for direct effects.
Although the Earth Rat year begins officially only on Feb 4, 2008, this year Chinese New Year comes early! This is due to an interesting mixture of elements going from the end of the 2007 Fire Boar year into the early part of the Earth Rat year. As such, you’d likely have felt some changes and gotten a preview of what the Earth Rat year has in store for you even as early as Dec 2007. By Jan 2008 you would already be well under the influence of the new governing Earth Rat qi.
[Do note however, if you’re making any *physical feng shui* changes to your home/office, that annual feng shui influences shift only as we approach Feb 4, 2008].
So what does the Earth Rat year has in store for us in general? The “Earth” of the year is Yang Earth and the main qi of the Rat is Yin Water. The imagery of the year is thus a misty mountain. While earth and water appear to clash in the relationship of the 5 elements, Yang Earth and Yin Water do have a special bond with each other. However, while there is a bond, it is also an explosive and volatile one!
What does all this mean? Control is a big issue. Expect authorities and world leaders to be in conflict with their subjects and subordinates. Many countries will experience change in leadership in attempts to create a new order. Within smaller communities there’ll differing points of view between rulers and subjects despite attempts to work together for the good of all. The “misty mountain” imagery of the year also paints an illusion; beautiful outside but with underlying, stealth activities. There’ll be unseen machinations and master-minding going on so don’t just go by surface interpretation of events and people.
When it comes to interpersonal relationships, the theme of the year is “love/hate”. Now, notice I’ve not used the term “bad” as love/hate relationships can stir up lots of passion and in the very least they are not boring! The types of relationships directly reflected in the imagery of the year are specifically spousal/love and boss-subordinate/leader-subject in nature. Time for volatility and immense passion!
The Rat is also what is termed a “Peach Blossom” animal. Now Peach Blossom luck is what creates attraction and flirting. In addition, the Rat’s “style” of Peach Blossom has to do with sexuality….so this is a year of scandals and a boom in Hollywood-type fodder! Expect problems with sexual misconduct to surface.
While fire qi is apparently weak this year, it has some innate strength particularly in spring and summer. So the entertainment industry (which relies heavily on “Peach Blossom”) will experience a good year except towards year end. In addition, the combination of the year’s elements also indicate a year of enjoyment, luxury and indulgence so industries related to entertainment, drinking, performing arts and luxury goods will thrive. Fire industries eg. beauty, visual media, high-tech gadgets and metaphysics will experience a good year but need to consolidate and hide away towards year end.
Water being strong throughout the year indicates a boom year for businesses involving travel, logistics and verbal communication. As water feeds wood, wood industries like consulting, development, teaching and fast-moving-consumer goods (FMCG) will also experience a good year. However, take note though that once water becomes overwhelming strong at the end of the year, you’ll see a sharp decline in the performance of both the water and wood industries.
Earth industries eg. insurance and property will on the surface appear strong and full of potential but alas, wealth in these industries will be difficult to capture. If you’re involved in an earth industry, it’s a good plan not to be greedy, to work hard and be happy with what you can achieve. Stay realistic and don’t overstretch yourself or be overambitious even though things may look really fantastic on the surface.
Metal industries eg machinery, banking and finance will experience a neutral to slow year. If you’re an entrepreneur in these industries, it’s a time for planning for the future and to let business run as it is or perhaps think of areas to improve your existing set-up. Save your grand plans and expansion for the future.
The combination of (unstable) earth and water indicate potential land disasters involving water eg. landslides near mountainous areas. Also, watch for accidents involving structural defects that come about after heavy bouts of rain, flooding or storms.
Health-wise, problems with the urinary and reproductive systems are indicated, particularly from contamination or lack of hygiene. Have these systems properly checked, under “good maintenance” and observe good hygiene. In addition, there is strong indication of heart attacks, stroke and other “sudden” ailments so do watch out for any early signs. Do not overstress yourself, take good care and stay calm esp. if you have a Horse (or more) in your BaZi chart.
